Welcome to Mexico!

*I couldn't open most of the photos Spencer sent this week, but I'll get that figured out and send them next week :)

Sorry this email might be kinda long so I’ll put the important main stuff at the beginning and you can read about the whole week if you want down lower and the pictures will be at the bottom

Traveling was a bit wild

My comp is Elder Garza, from Mexico but speaks fluent English and is super cool!

My area is called Tizayuca

We have bikes!!

Tons of work to do, but all on the phone because covid is still pretty bad here

We’ve got like 6 really solid investigators

Spanish is coming pretty ok

No pillows at our apartment!! I put all my p-day clothes in a pillowcase and that’s what I’ve been using haha

So, this week has been pretty wild!! Made it to the mission. So Tuesday morning my family took me to the airport, said our goodbyes and I got on a plane with like 30 other missionaries! About half were for my mission, the other half was for one other mission and then like 2 or 3 were going to Tijuana. But we made it to Mexico City, got put on a bus to Pachuca and the mission president, his wife and a senior missionary Elder Escomilla met us at the bus station in Pachuca. I thought there was no way we were going to fit like 13 missionaries and all their luggage, plus the president, his wife and the senior missionary in the tiny truck and minivan they brought, but we found a way haha. We tied everyone’s luggage up on the bed of the truck and crammed like 7 people into that and then the same with the minivan. Pretty wild haha. But we went to the church and met our companions there. My companion is Elder Garza, he’s from Mexico but a town on the Texas border called Matamoros. And he’s so close to the border that he went to high school in Texas! So he’s got fluent English and Spanish which is so nice. He’s super cool and he’s also the district leader! The next day we were supposed to all come back and have our interviews with president, so we were put in an old missionary apartment to stay the night. We waited around all day and there was no food at the apartment, so we were super hungry all day. We finally got the call around 3 pm to go to the church/mission offices to have interviews. We went there, waited all afternoon and evening and night and then I didn’t even get my interview. So that day was a bit of a waste. Stayed the night with the APs and then in the morning went to the immigration offices to get our green cards and finally had my interview with president.

That afternoon we drove to my area, called Tizayuca. It’s a really cool place actually! Honestly really pretty. The apartment is nice, we’ve got bikes and the members are all really cool! We’re like 5 minutes from the chapel. The next few days were getting into the swing of missionary life. We can’t go to members houses or anything because of covid so pretty much all of the work is done on the phone at our apartment, which definitely stinks sometimes, but we can get so many more lessons and contacts done in the same amount of time. The Lord provides a way. So we’ve taught a bunch of lessons and we have like 6 really solid investigators! They all read their assignments, come to the lessons with really good questions, and are just awesome really! I can’t really understand them, but Elder Garza always gives me a good run down on what happened. And I’m getting better at helping with teaching! I know what to say usually but just have no idea what people are saying back. They talk so fast here! But its honestly been a really good time. Also, there are no pillows at the apartment. Oof. Well that’s all for the week!

The spiritual thought for now is the power of prayer. We pray so much I wasn’t really expecting it! Like 10 times a day out loud at least, for all the lessons, different studies, meals, morning and night. And I feel the spirit much stronger and feel like I can speak the language so much better because of it. Prayer is important!!
