This week was a bit tough. But also really good. Like I said last week I’m finishing training a new Elder which is hard and also scary. He doesn't really know how to do much and doesn't help much with lessons and contacting so I do most of the work and teaching, which is hard because I haven't been here that long and don't know enough Spanish to feel comfortable teaching by myself. Really it is basically by myself. When we plan for lessons, I have him choose which points or doctrines he wants to teach, and then during individual and companion study we study these topics to prepare better for the lessons. Then the lessons come and it’s his turn to teach something and he talks for like 30-45 seconds, and then I basically have to teach his point again. It's been hard, but definitely has forced me to improve my Spanish and teaching skills, and over this week I've improved a ton honestly. But enough about my companion haha.
This past week we've been trying to focus more on having lessons in person. We've always been able to have lessons in person, but they need to be at the church, in a park, or on someone's porch. We just can't enter their houses. And we need to ask permission from the APs to have these in person lessons. Elder Garza wasn't a huge fan of in person lessons, for whatever reason. But I like them much more, so we've been trying to have more of them. We've had 4 lessons in person this week, I think, which is more in person lessons than we had in my 11 weeks with Elder Garza. I think these are so much more effective and we can get to know the people much better than through the phone.
On Tuesday we had an in person lesson at the church with an investigator named Adriana. She was a reference from a YouTube ad which is super cool! She told us she had seen the ad like 4 times and felt like she should respond to it and put in her information. In the in person lesson we had with her, we got to share the message of the restoration and give her a Book of Mormon and it was just an awesome lesson overall. We put her on date for the 30th! Super excited for her!
Today was great! I broke my 2 mile record this morning - 12:12! Which I’m super happy with. Since I can’t really do much physically here, I gotta keep my running goals going. We also got to play soccer as a district and all the Mexicans were surprised because I was actually good haha. Super fun to play soccer again after lots of years. Then we went to the catholic church and took pictures with the big block letters of Tizayuca. It was just a super fun day overall so far.
Overall, this week has been hard but really good for me. I’m learning so much Spanish and learning how to teach much better! I have received so much help in these aspects and gained an even greater testimony of prayer. I was terrified at first to train, but it’s really not too bad luckily haha. Anyway, that’s all for this week! I hope you’re all good! Write me if you have time spencer.stevenson@missionary.org
