Hey everyone!
Very interesting week to say the least haha.
We had exchanges twice! Tuesday and Wednesday I was with Elder Herrera from Zumpango. I had exchanges with him last transfer. He's a super cool guy and the exchange was way fun! Like 5 lessons fell through so we only ended up having 1 lesson, but we called like 40 people and set up like 10 lessons for the next day! And we went to the best place to eat in Tizayuca. It's called Tortas a la Vascula. Vascula means scale, like a bathroom scale. I'm pretty sure it's called a la vascula because all their tortas are huge! A torta is basically just a really good, big sandwich. So there's a torta there called the Cubana, and it has literally all of the ingredients they have in it. Like 7 types of meat 4 types of cheese, avocado, tomato, etc. So huge. And there's kind of a challenge the missionaries have made up to eat it all in one go. I tried with Elder Herrera and ate about ¾ of it and gave up. I'll attach a picture, but the sandwich is probably 4 pounds haha. But we had an awesome surprise when a member paid for our food!!
Thursday and Friday we had exchanges with the Zone Leaders! Not sure why we had two exchanges this week honestly, but it was fun! I was with Elder Rodriguez. We ate pizza al pastor which is one of my favorite things honestly. So good. Food is definitely always a highlight here hahaha. But it was a really good exchange, we taught some great lessons, did lots of contacts and I learned a ton! Also, Elder Rodriguez likes soccer so we played soccer in the street in front of our house for our exercise, which was so fun because I haven't been able to play soccer with someone since I've been here!
Sunday was a really good day. We fasted, had some really great lessons, and then almost at 11 at night got our news for transfers today! Elder Garza will be leaving Tizayuca to be a district leader in a city called Ixmiquilpan, and I will be staying here in Tizayuca to finish training a Mexican Elder!! I haven't met him yet, but his name is Elder Ramirez! He has been in the mission for 5 weeks, so he's not completely new, but I think his companion got called to be a Zone Leader, so I get to finish training him! Not going to lie I'm a bit terrified, but I know the Lord will provide a way. Combined we have a total of 16 weeks of missionary experience in the field haha. So please pray for me, I need it!!!!
Hopefully this transfer I can eat healthier and continue to run every day. I've eaten very unhealthy lately and I've gained weight noticeably :( but the food here is way too good to not eat, I just need to be better with how much I eat haha.
It's kind of weird having my first transfer, saying goodbye to Elder Garza as my trainer, and then training someone! But I'm excited to stay here in Tiza York (nickname for Tizayuca that the missionaries use) and continue to work with our awesome investigators! I love you all! Please email me and update me with your stuff! Spencer.stevenson@missionary.org
