Another week come and gone in México! And as of Friday, the 29th I have 19 months left in the mission. But who's counting… anyway this week, like most, was a bit of a rollercoaster with lots of ups and downs. Earlier this week I kept having this dream, like 3 nights in a row. In this dream there was a family that ran a restaurant here in Tizayuca and they were super interested in learning more about the gospel but I kept forgetting to add them in our schedule so I would wake up, not thinking straight and stress about this family. Like a part of my brain knew it wasn't real but the other part was fully convinced this family was real and we needed to teach them and so I couldn't really sleep that well because of the fake stress I kept having. But I haven't had that dream for like 4 days so maybe it's over?
Thursday we had an in-person lesson with Oliver Suarez, the son of our recent convert Nuevadelhi. We found out Nuevadelhi was really sick. She had cancer but finished all her treatments and stuff about 2 months ago, but still gets really sick sometimes and has really bad pains. This was one of those days and we ended up giving her a priesthood blessing. I got to do the blessing and it was a super great spiritual experience for all of us! She ended up going to the hospital that night and they gave her some medicine and now she's doing much better.
Friday we had a cool experience at a gas station. We had just left the building and this guy came up to us and asked us if we knew some random verse from Isaiah by memory. And neither of us knew it, and so we thought this guy was going to bash us or something, but he ended up just being super cool and talked about how there's not peace in the world because everyone is going about it the wrong way. That the only source of lasting peace is through Christ and we’re helping people find that peace. I was worried we were going to get yelled at or something, but it was just a guy who knew what we are about and told us to keep it up. That was nice.
Saturday was a bit of a bummer because we had to delay Oliver's baptism because his dad had to work, so we're going to have it the 13th. Also Adriana, our investigator who was going to be baptized on Sunday, sent us a text and told us that she hadn't been 100% honest in the interview and still has a problem with drinking coffee every day. So we didn't end up having either baptism this weekend. But we have continued working with Adriana and she's doing great! Studying the scriptures, increasing her faith and she's replacing her coffee with chamomile tea! So hopefully we can help her resolve these issues and help her be baptized. She really is super ready and excited to take this step and wants it to be in the right circumstances, which shows that she knows how important it is.
Monday we went to Pachuca because I was asked to play piano and be in charge of a small mission choir! We are going to perform “Lead Kindly Light” which is one of my favorite hymns! A bit nervous because we only have 3 practices total before the performance in two weeks, and the accompaniment I’m going to play is a bit tough, but luckily I’ll have time to work on it every day.
This week has really had some great moments and some rough ones, but I’m adapting and really loving the work, with all its difficulties. I love you all and hope you all had a great week!
Love,
Elder Stevenson
