A new friend!

Hey everyone!

Another good week here. The work has been slower this week for sure. Lots of people got covid and a ton of our lessons got cancelled. The best part though is that we have an awesome new friend progressing. His name is Obed, and he and his fiancée (she’s a member and returned missionary) came to church last Sunday and we got to know them.

Monday we went to visit them in a town I had never been to. The town is called Poxindeje (fun name) and buses don’t go there very often, which we learned the hard way later in the week haha. Anyway, Obed has an incredible story, which I won’t go into but basically, he had a really, really hard life before when he lived in another state. He was involved in some dangerous things, but through a crazy really sad experience he realized that he was missing a relationship with God, and he ended up moving here a while ago, mostly for safety reasons. But he met Hermana Stefanie and they started dating, she told him about the church, and he came Sunday. We got to teach him about the Book of Mormon and the restoration, and it was super awesome. They need to get married before he can be baptized because they’re living together. They do really want to get married, they’re just very low on money. But meeting and getting to know him was really an amazing experience we had this week.

Other than that, it was just a normal week. Yesterday (Sunday) we had a family home evening with a bunch of the Garcia family, some of whom are recent converts and we talked about the story of Lot’s wife in this week’s Come Follow Me. In the Come Follow Me manual there’s a quote from a talk by Elder Holland, which is actually a talk I really like. It’s called "Remember Lot’s Wife" and in it he says that really what was wrong with what his wife did was she didn’t have faith that what the Lord had in store for her was better than what she had in Sodom and Gomorrah. And what we can learn from the story is that we need to have faith in the future, in what the Lord has in store for us, and not focus and reminisce on days gone by. A really important lesson to learn on the mission as well.

Anyway, that’s about it for the week. My parents sent me a mini guitar that I’ve been learning, I’ll send a video. I love you all!
